What does the future hold for the League?
League membership is currently approximately 600, but this is a gradually declining number as no new Pelicans have qualified since 1987.
- The need for support to members may well increase over the years. The number of students studying nursing in NHS Lothian will also continue to increase and therefore the number of those applying for a grant to assist with funding their clinical elective placement will grow.
- Qualified nurses will continue to require help to fund projects which aim to enhance patient care. These projects are highly valued by nurses and management and many patients benefit from the enhanced care provided.
- Fund-raising by various means will be vital if the League is to be able to continue beyond the next four to five years. We therefore would welcome donations, small or large. Increasing the number of members is also important.
